McMow Art Glass recently installed new stained glass windows at the Cathedral of Saint Ignatius of Loyola in Palm Beach Gardens.

The stained glass was commissioned by The Rev. Gavin J. Badway, rector of the cathedral, to replace the existing stained glass that was contemporary in design. The art glass in the main sanctuary was completely redesigned in a traditional style suitable for a cathedral worship space.

The artistic team at McMow Art Glass developed the designs and handled all aspects of the project from the construction of the window to the final installation. The art glass consists of 18 panels and more than 300 square feet of glass. Each piece of colored art glass was imported from Europe and is one-of-a-kind mouth-blown glass known as Lamberts. This glass type reportedly is the finest glass still made today and is a favorite for worship spaces because of its jewel tones.

Each step of the art glass process from design to glass cutting to building is done by hand at McMow’s studio in Lake Worth Beach. The handpainted and kilnfired details in the lambs, robes, rocks and grasses, were created by McMow’s inhouse glass painter, Jordan Clemens, who graduated from the Dreyfoos School of the Arts. McMow’s master glass artisan, Hans Mauer, and journeyman, Jurgen Grauer, both of Germany, built each of the 18 stained glass windows.

The husband and wife team of Shanon and Phil Materio started McMow Art Glass in 1977. Today, McMow is one of the largest art glass studios in the country, with a team of glass artisans and masters creating art glass daily. Recently completed art glass installations include the Eau Resort Palm Beach, La Goulue Palm Beach and the historic Brazilian Court Hotel in Palm Beach.
